Workers Compensation

Workers' Comp

Being injured on the job can lead to lots of frustration. Most employers are mandated by law to carry workers' compensation to protect their workers. They may deal with an insurance provider or they can choose to self-insure. In either case, there are steps you need to follow to make sure you can receive the care you need to recover. At Chiropractic First - Family Wellness Center in South Burlington VT, we treat personal injury including those that happen on the job.

.

The most common workers' compensation injuries are strains and sprains. These injuries are hard to diagnose and require treatment to keep them from getting worse. A sprain or strain is not visible on an x-ray and may require specialized care, especially when located in the back or neck.

Workers Compensation Laws in Vermont

If you are injured at work or while performing work duties away from work, you must notify your employer immediately. Your injury may have occurred due to sudden trauma or due to the accumulation of smaller injuries over time. As soon as you are aware that something is not right, tell your employer. Your employer is required to file a claim with their insurance carrier and provide you with a copy. If they have not done this, you should contact the Vermont Department of Labor and request a Form 5 – Employee’s Notice of Injury and Claim for Compensation.

You should get medical care as soon as possible. If you are unable to work, you will need a note from your doctor documenting that. You may be directed to a company doctor for the first visit. Following that visit, you can choose a doctor. You need to file a Form 8 to change your doctor. You can get the form from the insurance company or if you need to from the Department of Labor.

Your company's workers' compensation insurance company has 21 days to decide if your injuring is work-related. They will send you a Form 7 Medical Authorization to allow them to access your medical records relating to your injury. You should keep them informed about any medical appointments you have. You have the option to choose chiropractic care if your injury warrants it.

Reviews By Our Satisfied Patients

  • "I was very impressed with the chiropractic care I received from Dr. Anderson. I had received chiropractic in the past for my neck pain, but not to this level of care. After only a few sessions, my symptoms began to disappear, especially my neck pain, and I know I would not have been able to perform to my everyday work functions without the treatment I received."

  • "I have benefitted tremendously from the chiropractic care I received from Dr. Anderson. Not only has the adjustments helped alleviate my stiffness and aches, but it has helped me have more energy and just feel more balanced over all. A few months ago, I was able to resume a favorite hobby of mine: golf. Due to my previous pain, I never thought that’d be possible."
    Back Pain
  • "Dr. Anderson has allowed me to be headache free for quite some time now. I used to have daily nagging headaches that often would turn into a migraine leaving me unable to function. For the longest time, I thought I could just keep taking medication to have the pain subside."

  • "As a court reporter, using my hands to type on a daily basis is a requirement. The work is speedy and can often last for hours at a time. Several months ago, every movement I made became excruciatingly painful. I started seeing Dr. Anderson and he put together a program for me that helped right away. He stressed the importance of my posture and proper hand and arm placement."
    Carpal Tunnel
  • "It's been 7 months since I got wiped out by a monster wave. I sought treatment at the hospital and they took x-rays and said everything seemed normal, that I would just have some pain for a few days. A few days actually turned into several weeks, so at the suggestion of my girlfriend, I went to see Dr. Anderson."
